It seemed our divine right to be among the elite of Europe having to endure the formality of the group stage of the Champions League. Those were the days Gooners could make plans for Europe long before the Premier League season had ended. Our children and grandchildren may never have this experience and read stories like mine in amazement. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; vertical-align: baseline; margin: 6.0pt 0in 6.0pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans',sans-serif; color: #555555;\">Now we are out of Europe and not even hopeful of an imminent return as Technical Director, Edu Gaspar is not even predicting 10<sup>th <\/sup>place at the end of this season. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; vertical-align: baseline; margin: 6.0pt 0in 6.0pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans',sans-serif; color: #555555;\">Despite our fall from grace I still treasure the memories of those 20 years in the Champions League. There were some disappointing defeats during the latter years, especially in the knock-out stages, but I will never forget our trip to the finals when we lost to Barca in Paris having gone a man down early into the match. And despite never winning the big goblet who can forget those memorable victories at over top-top clubs like Barcelona, Madrid, Munich Dortmund, and the two Milans, when they were in their pomp. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; vertical-align: baseline; margin: 6.0pt 0in 6.0pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans',sans-serif; color: #555555;\">On the backs of those achievements I take inspiration from my compatriot Bob Marley\u201dRise up you fallen fighters, rise up and take a stand. \u201c It was only 43 years ago when he was taped at the rainbow Club in London but it is as fresh as ever.
