Arsenal Needs A Rethink

In our review of the FA Cup tie featuring Arsenal v Liverpool, me  and Blackburn George note that while it is difficult for most Gooners to come out publicly and admit it, there is no denying Arsenal are in a slump. Results over the past month, according to arsenal.com, speak loudly.

On one hand Arsenal are an energetic, pressing team especially in the first half of games, but over time it is clear opposing teams have sussed them out and the Gunners are finding it harder and harder to score goals as games wear on.

Sunday’s game was no exception as the following stats show that overall Arsenal was dominant  vs the 2nd half when Liverpool dominated in shot attempts in the second half. In the tables below Arsenal is the right column vs Liverpool on left column (Source: sofascore.com).

Second Half – Shot Attempts

The evidence is overwhelming which suggests there needs to be a major tactical rethink by Arteta to get the team back on track and to at least make top-4 by the end of the season. In our opinion, now is not the time for for two extremes in the fanbase (pro-Arteta vs anti-Arteta) to commence a war over whether to persist with or change the current manager.  Fans need to stand united behind the team if they are to recapture their best form.
